A method for predicting stressed words in English jazz chants

To acquire a second language, one must develop an ear and tongue for the correct stress and intonation patterns of that language. In English language teaching, there is an effective method called Jazz Chants for working on the sound system. In this paper, we propose a method for predicting stressed words, which play a crucial role in Jazz Chants. The proposed method is specially designed for st...

Stressed solid-phase epitaxial growth of ion-implanted amorphous silicon

The kinetics of stressed solid-phase epitaxial growth (SPEG), also referred to as solid-phase epitaxy, solidphase epitaxial regrowth, solid-phase epitaxial recrystallization, and solid-phase epitaxial crystallization, of amorphous (a) silicon (Si) created via ion-implantation are reviewed. The effects of hydrostatic, in-plane uniaxial, and normal uniaxial compressive stress on SPEG kinetics are...

Variably Skewed Brownian Motion

Given a standard Brownian motion B, we show that the equation Xt = x0 + Bt + β(Lt ) , t ≥ 0 , has a unique strong solution X. Here L is the symmetric local time of X at 0, and β is a given differentiable function with β(0) = 0, −1 < β′(·) < 1. (For linear β(·), the solution is the familiar skew Brownian motion).

Interpolation with Variably Scaled Kernels

Within kernel–based interpolation and its many applications, it is a well–documented but unsolved problem to handle the scaling or the shape parameter. We consider native spaces whose kernels allow us to change the kernel scale of a d–variate interpolation problem locally, depending on the requirements of the application. The trick is to define a scale function c on the domain Ω ⊂ Rd to transfo...

Distinguishing Phrase-Final and Phrase-Medial High Tone on Finally Stressed Words in Turkish

The goal of this paper is to investigate the nature of the high tones realized on finally stressed words in Turkish. Following Ipek & Jun’s [1] AM model of intonational phonology of Turkish, it was hypothesized that the high tone realized on the last syllable of a phrase (i.e., Intermediate Phrase (ip)) is realized differently from that of a phrase-medial prosodic word (PW), reflecting the pros...
